Simon AI

A customer data platform built natively on top of Snowflake, cited by cyber criminals as the vector for accessing Asos user data.

Simon AI (also referred to as Simon Data) is a technology platform that operates natively on top of Snowflake, a popular data storage and analysis company. The platform is designed to facilitate data management and analysis within the Snowflake ecosystem.

Role in Asos Data Breach

The platform gained public attention following a significant data breach at the UK online fashion retailer Asos in October 2026. Cyber criminals, identifying themselves as “Xuanyewen,” contacted the BBC and claimed they had used Simon AI to gain unauthorized access to Asos customer data. The hackers asserted that this allowed them to compromise what they described as a “Snowflake instance” associated with the retailer.

According to the attackers, the use of Simon AI enabled them to download detailed profiles of potentially millions of users, including names, addresses, phone numbers, emails, customer numbers, dates of birth, and search history. However, it is important to note that Snowflake previously stated its core platform had not been breached. Asos explained that the initial access point involved hackers impersonating trusted contacts to obtain login credentials for an employee account, which then provided access to the service.

Contextual Definition

While specific technical details regarding Simon AI’s architecture are limited in available reports, it functions within the broader domain of data analysis and cloud computing infrastructure. It serves as an intermediary layer or application built upon the underlying data warehousing capabilities provided by Snowflake, illustrating how third-party platforms integrated into major cloud ecosystems can become vectors for security incidents if compromised through credential theft or social engineering.
